The boxy Scion xB, dubbed an 'urban utility vehicle', has been the brand's cornerstone model with the broadest appeal among Scion buyers.
The xB is powered by a 158-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode is optional, and both gearboxes are controlled through a high-mounted shifter, which falls easily into the driver's hand. Every xB is equipped with 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, power mirrors and windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, a satellite-compatible 160-watt Pioneer audio system with MP3 capability, and an auxiliary audio input jack for portable music devices; a rear liftgate provides access to a generous cargo area with approximately 70 cubic feet of capacity. Safety features include a vehicle stability control system with traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, a tire pressure monitor, and dual front, front side-impact and overhead curtain airbags.
